Flats or Heels for Young Flower Girls Many brides enjoy picking out the dresses for the members of their bridal parties. Not only do a lot of brides choose the color and style of dress worn by their bridal party, but they also often pick out the accessories such as the jewelry and shoes to be worn also. Sometimes, this even extends to the young flower girls in the wedding too. While there isn’t anything wrong with this practice, when choosing shoes for young flower girls, there are a couple of considerations to think about first.
Overall Comfort: While your little flower girl may look darling in a pair of shoes with small heels, think about how long she will be wearing those shoes and how comfortable she will be after an hour or two in them. There isn’t anything worse than a cranky flower girl (or ring bearer) so consider the comfort level of the shoe. Often times, flat dress shoes for young flower girls (age 5 and under) are a better option.
Slip Resistance: If your flower girls are younger than 5, they will most likely be pretty active while wearing their special occasion dress shoes. Shoes with slight heels have less surface area to stand on, which increases the chances of slipping or falling when being worn. Naturally this is reduced in flat dress shoes as there is more surface area covering the ground when the girl is walking. However, if you do decide to get dress shoes with slight heels, try to find some with rubber grips on the bottom to help reduce slips and falls.
