Getting Boys Ready for Special Occasions

by
If you’re the mother of a boy, then you’ve probably noticed how little attention is paid to the boys when it comes to preparing for special occasions – in comparison to girls. After all, little girls have so much more to worry about right? They’ve got to get in their special occasion dresses, have their hair done just right, put on all the right accessories, find the perfect shoes and finally get all glammed up (even if it is just a little eye shadow and lipstick) before the special occasion begins. It’s true that boys don’t take that much work to get ready, but there are still things that you have to do to make sure they look appropriate for the event.

1.    Suit or Tuxedo? The first thing you have to do when preparing your son for a special occasion is to determine if he will need a suit or tuxedo for the event. If the event is a pretty formal event and specifies “black tie event,” then a tuxedo is needed. However, if it isn’t that formal and there aren’t any instructions on the invitation, a suit will most likely do.

2.    Order the Attire. Once you know what type of attire your son will need to wear, you need to get it ordered. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to receive the item and return it, if necessary. The last thing you want to do is receive the suit or tuxedo a couple of days before the event only to have it not fit right. In this scenario, you won’t have enough time to return the item and get the right size back.

3.    Find the Shoes. Although shoe shopping for boys isn’t as intensive of a process as shoe shopping for girls is, it’s something that still has to be done. Once you have ordered the tuxedo or suit for your little one, you can begin to shop for the shoes. Now, if you order through Kids Formal, then you can just order the shoes at the same time as the tuxedo/suit. However, if you order your formalwear somewhere else, then you can always take a picture of the suit/tuxedo you ordered with you as you look for the boys’ dress shoes to match. (Don’t forget the dress socks!)

4.    Fix his Hair. On the day of the special occasion, you’ll have to decide how to fix your little man’s hair. Again, this isn’t nearly as labor intensive as it is for little girls, but something has to be done with his hair. If it’s been a while since he’s had a haircut, you probably should take him in for a haircut first thing in the morning. Then, once he’s dressed and ready to go to the event you can do a couple of things. The easiest is to spray his hair down with water and comb it. If your son’s hair is stubborn and water doesn’t work, then skip the water and put some hairstyling gel in and style it the way you want.

Boys suit it is! Although it's a formal event, we opt for a boys black suit.  This way, he can wear it for more occasions, such as attending weekend churches.
