Tips for Choosing the Right Graduation Dress

Graduation is a very important occasion in one’s life regardless of whether you’re graduating from eighth grade, high school or college. For girls, choosing the right graduation dress is almost just as important as graduation itself, especially for high school and college graduates. Below are a few tips to help you choose the right graduation dress.

1.    Consider the Graduation Gown. While most people are not going to see your graduation dress while you’ve got your graduation gown on, it’s still important to consider the graduation gown. Why? If you’re graduation gown is white, then you may want to refrain from buying a dark colored graduation gown because it may show under the gown. Obviously, if your gown is a dark color, then you’ll have more freedom in the graduation dress you choose.

2.    Think About Length. Another thing to take into consideration is the length the potential graduation dresses you’re looking at. It’s probably a good idea to get a graduation dress that isn’t floor length because it will hang down past your graduation gown. On the flip side, graduation is a formal, prestigious event, so you don’t want a super-short dress either. It’s best to choose a graduation dress with a length that falls somewhere between your knees and your shins, just to be on the safe side. If you do choose a long, floor length dress, make sure the dress’s color does not clash with your graduation gown.

3.    Fit Your Body Type. While you may be in love with the figure fitting dresses, those dresses may not be best suited for your body type. When you go graduation dress shopping, make sure you try on a wide variety of dresses so you can see which styles look best on your body. Always, shop for your body type first to ensure you look stunning in the dress you choose.

4.    Consider the Price. Finally, regardless of what special occasion dress you’re shopping for, you need to consider the price. In fact, it’s best if you have a budget determined before you go into the first store and try on dresses. One thing to remember when setting a dress budget is that you don’t want to set it too low but you don’t want to set it too high either. Spend some time looking at dresses you like and take notes on their prices before you go shopping…set your budget somewhere in the middle.
