Ways to Save on Formalwear for Kids
by Andrea K. Clark
Tips you may find helpful when you decide to start shopping for your kids’ formal clothing, there are a few ways that you can save money on formal clothing.
It doesn’t matter how old your children are, they always need one or two formalwear options hanging in their closets, just in case a formal event “pops” up that they need to dress properly for. The issue for many parents is that formal events don’t happen that often and kids grow incredibly fast, making it difficult to buy formalwear in advance. Not to mention that formal clothing for kids can be expensive.
This is why so many parents wait until they know about a formal event before they go shopping for formal clothing. Regardless of when you decide to start shopping for your kids’ formal clothing, there are a few ways that you can save money on formal clothing. Below are a few tips you may find helpful.
1. Shop Early and Buy Big. Generally, stores run after-holiday sales where many styles of little girl dresses, boys’ suits and boys’ tuxedos all go on sale. Most of us with children dress them formally at least once a year, even if it’s just for Christmas. So, take advantage of these sales and shop for the formalwear a year in advance. Just buy the clothes big. It doesn’t matter if you are buying a dress for your little girl or a suit/tuxedo for your son, if it’s too big come next year, you can have it altered to fit. You can’t do that if it’s too small, so make sure you buy the outfit at least two sizes bigger.
2. Follow Favorite Stores Online. We all have our favorite clothing stores where we like to shop. It doesn’t matter if we prefer to do our shopping in-store or online, most clothing stores have their own Facebook and Twitter pages now, as well as, some type of newsletter that they send out on a regular basis. Therefore, look up your favorite stores online and follow them on Facebook and Twitter and sign up for their newsletter. These are the places where you’ll find coupons on a regular basis, allowing you to shop and save more often.
3. Mix and Match. When purchasing suits for boys, understand that you don’t always have to buy and entire suit to make the outfit look unique. Once you’ve purchased the original suit, you can always mix and match the shirt and tie that goes with the suit. In addition, if your son suddenly grows taller, you can go and purchase new trousers/slacks that match the suit jacket with no one being the wiser. You can continue doing this until your son grows out of the entire suit, saving you a lot of money – especially if you attend a lot of formal events.
