Pretty Flower Girl Dress

by

While it’s a common wedding tradition for flower girls to be wearing a pretty flower girl dress and carrying a basket full of flower petals, believe it or not, some young girls don’t like the idea of wearing a dress. While the “refusal” may just be temporary and not last until the wedding day arrives, sometimes young girls can be quite stubborn which can make for very unhappy flower girls on your wedding day. (Perhaps you watched the royal wedding in April and saw the unhappy flower girl?) Below are a couple of ways you can handle an unhappy flower girl.

1.      Let Her Pick Her Dress. Sometimes the issue isn’t wearing a dress at all, but instead the fact that she didn’t get to pick it out. Let the unhappy flower girl look through a few magazines, or even at dresses online, and pick the one she likes best. Just let her know that the dress will be in the color you choose.

2.      Give Her a Choice. If the flower girl doesn’t change her position, you may have to give her the choice to be in your wedding (wearing a dress) or to not be in the wedding. Some brides have let unhappy flower girls wear little white tuxes, but this may seem odd to your guests. If the little one is 4 or older, then she is old enough to decide whether she wants to be in the wedding or not.
