Things to Do On Snowy Days with the Kids
Things to Do On Snowy Days with the Kids
So, last night I had heard a brief mention that we may be getting more snow today and tomorrow, but I didn’t pay much attention to it. Where I live, the weathermen are wrong more often than not and the last time the predicted a “big” snow for my area we got an inch or so. Plus, it was in the 50s yesterday and beautiful outside!
So, naturally I wake up at 6:30 a.m. to get the kids ready for school today and what do I find? It’s snowing…heavily! It must have come in too late because none of the schools were closed, but it looks like there is another storm headed our way that should be here by tonight…so, I’m preparing for a snow day tomorrow. The roads are already slick out and completely covered with snow out where I live, so I don’t imagine we’ll have school tomorrow with a second storm on the way.
I had thought that spring was going to be coming shortly since the groundhog didn’t see his shadow, but I guess not! I know I’m not the only one who gets taken by surprise every now and then with unplanned snow days. So, below is my list of things to do tomorrow with my little one during his snow day. Hopefully, these will come in handy for you sometime too!
1. Make Cinnamon Rolls – My son loves to be in the kitchen when I’m cooking and most of the time I shoo him out because he’s under my feet with a truck. However, he is all about helping me make cookies and other sweet treats. So, tomorrow, I think I’m going to let him help me make homemade cinnamon rolls. Right now, I can’t think of anything better than hot, melt-in-your-mouth, homemade cinnamon rolls on a cold, snowy morning!
2. Watch Movies – During the afternoon, I’m thinking we will pop some popcorn and watch some of the “good-old” movies. Things like Land Before Time, The Fox and the Hound and Milo and Otis. Our movie days are far and few between due to busy schedules, but snow days give us the time to make up for it.
3. Play in the Snow – Of course, a snow day means you have to play in the snow! My little guy’s favorite thing to do is make snow angels. He also likes to make snowmen too. It looks like there will be plenty of snow for that. And, when it quits, we can break out the sleds. We have a nice little hill that he can go down!
4. Drink hot cocoa and roast marshmallows – Not too long ago, I bought some hot cocoa and marshmallows just in case we got some more winter weather. A snow day is the perfect time to get it out. We can enjoy it as we sit by the warm, crackling fire in the fireplace and roast marshmallows.
While snow days may be inconvenient for us adults at times, they are great excuses for us to slow down and spend some quality time with our kids. Above are a few ways that we can do this when the opportunity arises. I’m sure that there are many more snow days activities that you and your kids can enjoy in addition to those listed above!
